Carfax check

A check of a car’s history through Carfax — accidents, mileages, servicing and title status for cars from the USA.

The history before the purchase

We order the report before any money is paid for the car: accidents, mileages and workshop records are visible in advance.

We read it through with you

An expert explains what in the report really matters and what is an ordinary dealer entry.

See what you can import for your budget

Over 11 000 listings from eight markets. Filter by the turnkey price, not the price abroad — so the comparison is honest.

Updated daily.

In the USA every car has a biography, and it is documented. Insurers, the police, workshops, registration authorities and auctions have been feeding data into shared databases for years. Carfax gathers it by VIN into a single report — and what a seller would rather keep quiet about becomes visible on paper.

The report tells you how many owners the car has had and how they used it: whether it was a private car, a leased one, a company car, a taxi or a rental. You can see which states it was registered in, how many miles it covered in a year, and whether there were periods when it was simply left standing.

Servicing is a separate part. The report lists visits to a workshop with dates and mileages: oil, brake and tyre changes, and work under warranty. What they show above all is regularity. If the oil was changed every 8–10 thousand kilometres without a gap, that is one story; if the entries are 40 thousand miles apart, that is quite another, and the engine and the gearbox will have felt it.

And finally, the most expensive part: accidents, airbag deployment, damage to the load-bearing structure, the car being declared a total loss, the title status and attempts to roll back the mileage. We run a Carfax check on every car from the USA and Canada before a bid is placed — so that the decision is made on facts rather than on the description in a listing.

What Carfax shows

💥

Accidents and damage

Dates of accidents, the severity of the impact on a scale, the damaged area on a diagram, airbag deployment and damage to the load-bearing structure of the body.

📜

Title status

Salvage, Rebuilt, Junk, Flood, Fire, Hail and Lemon marks. Marks like these change the price of a car and the terms of its sale for good.

🏦

Declared a total loss

Whether an insurance company wrote the car off as beyond repair, and at what point that happened.

🔢

Mileage by year

Odometer readings from every source and a direct indication of rolled-back mileage if the figures have gone backwards anywhere.

👥

Owners

How many hands, in which states, how long they owned it and how many miles they covered in a year. The type of ownership is visible too — private, lease, rental, taxi.

🔧

Regularity of servicing

Every visit to a workshop with a date and a mileage. An even pattern of replacements is a good sign; gaps between entries are a reason to haggle.

⚠️

Recall campaigns

Outstanding factory rectifications from the manufacturer — the things you would have to do at your own expense once in the destination country.

🛠

Repairs and warranty

Warranty work, repeat visits about the same problem, and a note on whether the factory warranty has been voided.

How this looks in a real example

A 2019 Ford Fusion Titanium, a hybrid with 86 542 miles. The car went at the Copart bidding for 5 800 $ against an estimated market value of 14 567 $. The difference is easily explained: the front end is damaged, there are hail marks, and the documents are a Salvage Certificate of Title.

For every lot like this you receive the full package: the auction lot card with the parameters and the sales history, the Carfax report with accidents and mileages, and all the auction photographs — body, interior, damage, instrument panel.

If the pictures are not enough, we send our own specialist to the site: he takes extra photos and video of the areas that matter and assesses the real nature of the damage and any hidden defects. That way you understand what the repair will cost before you have placed a bid.

What is good in the report

  • The airbags did not deploy — the interior and the pyrotechnic electronics are intact
  • No damage to the load-bearing structure of the body was recorded
  • The mileage is confirmed, with no traces of rolling back
  • The car is a runner: it starts, it drives, the keys are there
  • There are no open Ford recall campaigns
  • Regular servicing at dealers, with no gaps visible in the history

What gives cause for concern

  • A Salvage title: the insurer wrote the car off and the factory warranty has been voided
  • The main impact was to the front end, with hail damage to the body on top of it
  • Serious damage is noted in the report under the second owner
  • The car is not covered by the Carfax buyback guarantee
  • The auction estimate for the repair is 13 209 $ against a retail value of 14 567 $

What it costs to put right

The auction valued the repair at 13 209 $ using American labour rates and original parts. In Russia, approached sensibly, the sum works out several times smaller: some parts are repaired, some are replaced with aftermarket equivalents, and the critical ones with new original parts. Below is a guide based on spring 2025 prices.

What we doHowGuide price
Front bumper, grille, absorberaftermarket parts + painting35 000 – 55 000 ₽
Headlight (one side)aftermarket or used original30 000 – 60 000 ₽
Bonnet and front wingstraightening and painting35 000 – 60 000 ₽
Radiators, mountings, small partsaftermarket, some new original30 000 – 60 000 ₽
Hail damage to the bodypaintless dent repair (PDR)50 000 – 90 000 ₽
Labour: stripping down, reassembly, geometry, adjustmentsworkshop60 000 – 100 000 ₽

Approximate total 240 000 – 425 000 ₽

The estimate is preliminary and is given as an example of how the calculation works. The exact sum is known only once the car has been stripped down and assessed: hidden damage can move it in either direction. We work out an estimate like this before the bidding — together with the bid, the delivery and the customs clearance, so that you understand the final price of a running car and not just the price of the lot.
